Dr. Seuss would delight in this presentation of his work. For those of us steeped in the illustrations of Dr. Seuss's work, it's surprising that the spoken words stand so well on their own. They do, very well, and offer a whole new dimension for appreciating a fine collection of Seuss favorites. Each narrator in the ensemble, Jason Alexander, David Hyde Pierce, and Michael McKean, conveys sparkle and dimension. Pause and pace are used deftly. Tone and inflection are spirited and full of the lightness that one imagines Seuss himself would use when giving voice to his characters. Playful musical interludes and sound effects add just the right emphasis and zaniness. An outstanding total package. A.R. PreS-Gr 3 -This collection of nine early reader stories by Dr. Seuss is read by well-known actors Jason Alexander, David Hyde Pierce, and Michael McKean. Alexander gives a very energetic reading of "Green Eggs and Ham", using slight changes in his voice to differentiate between the insistent Sam I Am and his stubborn friend. He adds some pizzazz to his "Dr. Seuss's ABC"s by using loud, soft, high, and low voices. David Hyde Pierce's reading of "Fox in Socks" also uses different tones of voice in the dialogue between tongue-tied Mr. Knox and the wily Fox. Ron McKean's enthusiasm for the language is clear in his zealous readings of "I Can Read with My Eyes Shut" and other tales. Among the other stories in the collection are "I'm Not Going to Get Up Today", "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, -Oh, the Thinks You Can Think!", "Oh Say Can You Say? -" and "Hop on Pop". Marc Levenson produced a clever musical background that is consistent with the character of the stories. He highlights the readings with accents from a keyboard, synthesizer, and various percussion instruments that vary between bouncy chords, tinkling chimes, or musical themes, such as the prelude to -The Star Spangled Banner - at the beginning of "Oh Say Can You Say". This amusing selection of Dr. Seuss stories will suit most libraries for entertainment or educational purposes. -"Cynthia Grabke, Thayer Public Library, Braintree, MA"
